The Garden

The homestead at Maranoa was built in the 1880s and many of the beautiful old trees forming the backdrop to the garden date from that time. We have been steadily developing the garden to compliment our recently renovated lovely old home, in its setting of expansive lawns and rural views over the Rangitikei River Valley.
Old and new combine in a developing garden of herbaceous borders, rare and interesting trees and shrubs.
A double avenue of white beam (Sorbus aaria 'Lutescens'),lines up a distant view of Mt.Ruapehu in one direction and at right angles, an old farm building.

The Gardener

Howard and Marice own a bull farm with three dogs - Sue the Working lass, Jake the" water and bird" dog, and Belle a 'Jumping Jack' Foxy. We have a fascination for trees and love trying to grow anything rare and unusual with mixed results! The Garden keeps us busy but we welcome visitors and enjoy showing them around, or leave them to wander at leisure. A very tranquil setting with many native birds amongst the trees to give you a dawn chorus!
