General Tour Information.
''The main features of my tours are that they are kept to smaller numbers, there are no single night stops, there is plenty of time to do things other than visiting gardens, and all aspects of the itinerary are prepared by myself. This includes a wide variety of types of gardens, the hotels we stay in, the routes driven, and meetings with local people as well as tours with local guides.' Margaret Long

The GardenNamed after a classic red rose, this generous country garden flows around the mellow brick residence in a sequence of carefully thought out spaces. Formal outdoor living areas close to the house take advantage of subtle changes of level, with crisp hedges and falling water.
Broad steps lead up and out to lawns, relaxed colourful borders and a fine collection of trees, providing layers of light and shade to explore; the gravel garden and potager are beyond.
An exceptional sense of colour is demonstrated throughout, and is a highlight of the garden. Rich dark hues and shimmering paler combinations of flowers, leaves, berries and bark, offer depth and interest.
Careful layering of planting, from tiny winter flowering bulbs to perennials, climbers, shrubs and trees, makes for a wide botanical diversity of form, texture, colour and scent in every season. |
The GardenerI have been a very keen gardener for many years. September 1992 I started to develop our present garden Frensham in Christchurch.
Many people have visited our garden over the years, and many fundraising events have been held, as well as meetings and other functions.
I have been leading tours for many years to England, Scotland, many regions of France, the Channel Islands, the Czech republic, Slovenia, Croatia and Spain. May 2011 our tour will be to Italy.
