The Garden

The 23rd annual Taranaki Rhododendron & Garden Festival kicks off on October 29 for ten days showcasing stunning private and public gardens, jazz & wine in gardens, an exclusive landscape design project, guided walks and a series featuring celebrated guest speakers.

We invite you to indulge in a feast for your senses, borne from the imaginations, inspiration and sheer perspiration of our region’s most gifted gardeners.

Each year the Festival offers an exclusive opportunity to experience a diverse range of high quality gardens that are among the best in the country. Visitors will enjoy strolling through large park-like country gardens, geometric and intimate inner city potager gardens, sub-tropical and rainforest gardens. There’s even an authentic Japanese tea house garden!

The Garden Festival - like no other!

The Gardener

All our Festival Gardeners are very experienced and extremely welcoming, every year for the past 23 years they have all looked forward to opening their gardens for the enjoyment of others. More info about our 2010 Landscape Designer: This year director and designer of Vertical Plantscapes, Tracey Peryman brings us a ‘Living Wall’. Also called Green Walls or Vertical Gardens these horticultural marvels have vegetation that grow directly onto a building’s facade. It will be the first exterior commercial vertical garden of this type in New Zealand. Look out for the Vertical Garden on the Brougham Street facade of the festival office building in New Plymouth.
