The Garden

Originally part of a dairy farm, and then a paddock at Otara Birch, Allambie gardens were first established in November 2003, by Lindsey & Ron.
A 1910 house had been relocated from Palmerston North and literally dumped in the middle of the paddock, with a garage/carport added. The plot had a number of trees growing on it. These included 3 maples an oak, a liquidambar. 11 very old and big pine trees which waved precariously in the wind. There were also 8 weeping cherries ["falling snow"] .
Today Allambie features 120 old-fashioned and modern roses , an astromeria garden, cabbage trees, lemonwood's and camellias. There is also a quiet, peaceful meditation garden, planted in the seasons of the year.

The Gardener

I do the designing, the planning of the gardens and the buying of the plants. As well I prune and care for the Roses. I get all the nice enjoyable things to do. Ron does all the digging, fertilising and planting .He also has done all the drainage channels, and takes control of the spraying of all plants. We have more gardens planned for the future.
