Paua Bay Farm stay offers a unique experience. Guests can escape to enjoy the activities of a working farm or can relax on the verandah listening to birdsong. Breakfast is served on the verandah or in the inviting kitchen where the noises of the start of a new farm day mingle with the sound of the sea. After breakfast guests can choose to help muster sheep or engage in other farm activities, gather shellfish or observe seals and the occasional penguin on the private beach.

The Garden

The garden encompasses a 600 year old Kahikatea, Totara and many other native trees. Bird life is abundant.
The farmhouse is surrounded by a cottage garden featuring old fashioned favourites such as roses, lavender, catmint, hollyhocks, lilies, rhododendrons, camellias.
Around each corner in the path is a new surprise, a secluded moonlight bath.....a hammock....a sculpture.
Well established vegetable garden that provides us with vegetables most of the year round.

The Gardener

Paua Bay is a working hill country farm which has been home to five generations of the Johns family. Our house hadn't been lived in for 16 years when we shifted in. It was a plain little bungalow plonked alone on a hillside of sun-bleached grass. The only thing it had going for it was the soaring ocean views and the 2 ha stand of native bush to the South. I had no experience but with the help of supportive local gardeners improved & have created a garden I hope you will enjoy.
