The Garden

First planted in the early 1990's this established subtropical garden features many wonderful specimen palms dating back to the original plantings. Extensively renovated during 2008 the garden features new developments since with palms, cycads, tropical tree ferns and arid species with rich under plantings of exotics and native species. We also added a substantial tropical house as the entrance to the garden featuring many interesting species.

The gardens were designed and constructed by Adam Shuter and the Palmco Landscape team who won Supreme Award for Ellerslie Flower Show 2007, and Supreme Construction Award. Many of the features of this winning design are now permanently exhibited in the display garden. The garden received the New Zealand Gardeners Trust award of Garden of National Significance in early 2009.

Palmco Garden features an indoor tropical garden, mature specimen palms, Paul Mason granite sculptures, fire pit, dry river bed, petanque court, small lake and much much more.

We have plans to extend the gardens over the next few years with an increase in the size of the gardens, further developing the range of plant species and spatial interest of the garden.

We invite you into our special garden where you will find an oasis of tranquility with much inspiration and ideas for your own gardens.

The Gardener

"Palmco's design talent and experience is evident when visiting the Palmco garden for the first time. The Ellerslie Flower Show Supreme award and the recent Garden of Significance award show that Palmco's peers recognise this also. Palmco is owned by the Lammerting family. Kristin Lammerting has a passion for gardening and garden designs and has written a number of award winning books on the subject in her home country of Germany. Kristin believes a garden should be a place for relaxation, inspiration and stimulation of all the senses as well as a reflection of the taste and style of its owners. Kristin loves to read the comments that are written in the visitors book and is thrilled when the garden is enjoyed by others as much as she is. Of course the ongoing development and maintenance of the garden is truly a team effort, with all members of staff providing ideas, energy and support to ensuring the garden is an exceptional destination to visit when in the Bay of Islands."
